Choose a payment channel

Electricity bills in Pakistan can be paid through a range of channels. All of them require the reference number or consumer number from your bill, and some will display the account name for you to verify before confirming. Use only official apps and verified bank branches — never pay through a third-party website that is not your own bank or registered wallet. The table below summarises the main channels and what you need for each.

Before confirming payment

Take a moment before confirming any utility payment. Mistakes are slow and difficult to reverse.

  1. Open your payment provider's official app or verified browser session — not a link sent by SMS or email.
  2. Navigate to bill payment, then select electricity and your specific distribution company.
  3. Enter the identifier the channel asks for — some channels use reference number, others use consumer number; they are different fields on your bill.
  4. Verify that the account name and amount displayed match your bill before tapping Confirm or Pay.
  5. Save the transaction ID, amount, date and reference as soon as payment completes. Screenshot the confirmation screen.
03

Payment deducted but not confirmed

If money was debited from your account but you did not receive a payment confirmation, check your transaction history before trying to pay again. A second payment will result in an overpayment that may take weeks to refund. Contact your bank or wallet provider with the transaction ID and timestamp. If the bank confirms the payment was sent but the utility has not received it, ask the bank to raise a dispute. The utility company can confirm receipt once the bank has provided the transaction reference.

04

Paying after the due date

The amount due after the deadline is higher than the within-due-date amount, as shown on the bill. If you are paying late, use the after-due-date amount shown on the printed bill, or confirm the currently applicable amount with your payment channel — some channels display an updated payable amount. If the bill is rejected by the payment system (for example because it has already been processed by another account holder), contact your distribution company to find out the current status and how to proceed.

FAQ

Common questions

Can I pay my electricity bill on JazzCash?

Yes. Open the JazzCash app, go to Bill Payment, select Electricity, choose your distribution company, and enter your reference number or consumer number. Verify the account name and amount before confirming. Save the transaction ID once the payment completes.

How long does it take for an electricity bill payment to be processed?

Payments made through bank apps and mobile wallets are typically posted to the utility within one to two business days. Payments at bank counters may take one to three business days. The duplicate bill from PITC may not immediately reflect a recent payment, so the absence of a 'paid' status on the duplicate bill does not mean the payment failed.

I paid my electricity bill but it still shows as unpaid — why?

The duplicate bill from PITC shows the bill as issued by the company. It does not update in real time when you pay. If you paid through a bank or wallet, wait two to three business days and check again. If it still shows as unpaid after that, contact your distribution company with your payment transaction ID and ask them to reconcile the account.

Can I pay an electricity bill for someone else?

Yes. You only need the reference number from their bill and to use a payment channel that accepts that distribution company. Payment is against the reference number regardless of whose account it is.
