NEPRA Net Metering in Pakistan — Overview for Consumers
High-level explanation of net metering under Pakistan’s regulatory framework: what gets exported, how credits are conceptualised, and why DISCO-level implementation matters.
Disclaimer: This page is general information only. Tariffs, net-metering rules, and DISCO procedures change—verify with your distribution company and official NEPRA materials before making purchase or wiring decisions.
What net metering is meant to do
Net metering allows eligible consumers to connect an on-site generation facility (typically rooftop solar) and exchange energy with the grid through a certified meter arrangement. Surplus generation can offset grid imports over a billing period according to approved rules—not a cash purchase guarantee from the DISCO.
Regulatory documents and DISCO procedures are updated over time. For binding requirements, rely on the latest NEPRA determinations and your DISCO’s published net-metering forms and technical standards.
Why your DISCO is central
Each distribution company applies the framework with local checks: protection settings, transformer capacity, inspection, and meter type. Two households in different cities can face different timelines even with similar kW sizes.
Outages, safety, and account disputes still route through your DISCO—not through a third-party website. Keep helpline numbers from your printed bill for escalation.
