Solar Power Basics in Pakistan — PV, Grid & Your Bill
Introductory guide to rooftop solar in Pakistan: how PV turns sunlight into usable AC power, how grid-tied systems interact with your DISCO meter, and how to think about savings alongside your official electricity bill.
Disclaimer: This page is general information only. Tariffs, net-metering rules, and DISCO procedures change—verify with your distribution company and official NEPRA materials before making purchase or wiring decisions.
What solar does on your roof
Solar photovoltaic (PV) modules convert sunlight into direct current (DC). An inverter converts DC into alternating current (AC) that matches the grid frequency your home already uses—typically the same voltage class as your existing connection.
In a common grid-tied layout, the solar system runs in parallel with the DISCO supply. Your loads use solar first when production is high; when production is low, you import from the grid. Exact behaviour depends on inverter settings, protection, and your approved net-metering arrangement.
Why your bill still matters
Solar changes how many units you buy from the grid, not the fact that DISCO tariffs, taxes, and fixed charges remain defined under NEPRA notifications and your tariff category. Always use your printed or duplicate bill as the reference for slab movement, FPA, and payment deadlines.
CheckBills.pk helps you read the official duplicate bill; solar economics sit on top of that same tariff structure. Treat estimates from online calculators as illustrative only.
Next steps
If you are considering net metering, read the policy summary and application checklist guides in this series. For commercial categories, review the commercial tariff and TOU alignment guides before sizing equipment.
Check your electricity bill
Use your reference number on the home checker or open your DISCO page directly.
